Is Vintage Kamara Back?

Let's get ready for week seven!

Hello hello! Welcome back! It’s a shorter newsletter this week than compared to most, but I’ve still got some nuggets in for you!

Are you ready for a spouse rivalry? Thursday night recap? Some things I’m looking forward to and some sleepers heading into Sunday? Let’s get to it!

My wife got me on Monday night football, thanks to a last-minute catch by Brandin Cooks. But how did Thursday go?

I had Shaheed at CPT, Alvin Kamara, Chris Olave, Christian Kirk, Derek Carr, and Evan Engram.

Her lineup featured TLaw at CPT, Calvin Ridley, Kirk, Michael Thomas, Taysom Hill, and Brandon McManus.

Running backs were the way to go in this game, thanks to Etienne’s two rushing touchdowns and Kamara’s insane reception totals, so unfortunately, despite my having Kamara, I didn’t win any money. My lineup basically depended on a bomb touchdown to Shaheed or he breaks off a big gain, which didn’t happen.

I pulled off the win thanks to Kamara and Ridley’s disappearance, but she’s been getting better at lineup construction so as the year goes on, it’ll be interesting to see how things go. I stand at 4-2 now on the year.

Thursday Night Fantasy Recap

The Jaguars played in back-to-back games where the opponent threw 55 passes. Derek Carr had himself a fine fantasy performance, but if you’re throwing 55 passes, we want a little more than what we got. Alvin Kamara went nuts again, posting 12 receptions for 91 yards. He has 35 receptions since returning from suspension. We haven’t seen these kinds of numbers from him since Drew Brees was in town. Maybe Derek Carr was the fix for Kamara all along, because the guy is dominating in half/full PPR formats.

Chris Olave had 15 targets, but only 7 catches for 57 yards. Michael Thomas’ fantasy day was saved by a touchdown. Rashid Shaheed is a great ceiling play, but his floor is low. All are startable but manage expectations.

Trevor Lawrence played well, in my opinion. Especially since his status was in doubt leading up to the game. His passing numbers weren’t anything special, but he led the Jaguars in rushing yards, which really boosted his fantasy performance. He still is not quite the Trevor Lawrence we hoped to see in his third season, but it’s an encouraging sign he may be turning a corner.

Week 1 does wonders for players, namely Calvin Ridley and Christian Kirk. We thought Kirk was dust and Ridley ran away with the WR1 job. That has been disproven so far. Anything can change, and it might once Zay Jones returns, but as of right now I’m feeling good about not overreacting to Kirk’s bad week 1 game.

Travis Etienne didn’t do a whole lot on the ground in terms of yardage, but two rushing touchdowns and some receptions helped him to yet another great day. He’s locked into your lineups.

Things to look out for in Week X

  • 🧀 If you’re in need of a tight end, Luke Musgrave is a great target on the waiver wire. He’s been averaging four catches and just shy of 40 yards per game this season when taking out the Detroit game where he left early. Denver has allowed the most yards and points to tight ends so far this season. He’s due for a touchdown too.

  • For that matter, just start your Packers this week. You were likely starting Christian Watson, but Romeo Doubs, Aaron Jones, and Jordan Love are all playable this week. I like Love this week as a cheap option for cash contests in DFS.

  • 🟠 Jerome Ford had 17 carries for 84 yards last week against the 49ers defense. If Watson returns, they may ease him back into action against a Colts team that is giving up yards on the ground on defense.

  • The Browns receivers are a little scary to start if PJ Walker is at the helm, but the good news is he gets a much easier matchup. Amari Cooper should be started this week regardless.

  • ☠️ Unless its Davante Adams, Josh Jacobs, Jakobi Meyers, or maybe Roshon Johnson if he plays, I can’t see myself starting anyone in the Chicago/Las Vegas game.

  • If you’re in need of a quarterback like many are, I hate to say it, but Desmond Ridder is streamable this week. This could easily bite me, but he’s been good the last two weeks. Tampa isn’t the easiest matchup, but beggars can’t be choosers right now.

  • 🦁 I actually don’t mind streaming the Detroit Lions DST this week, even against Baltimore. The Ravens torched the Browns’ defense, but they were constantly on the field and worn out because the Cleveland offense couldn’t move the ball. Detroit won’t have that problem. They are top-10 in interceptions and pressure percentage in the NFL. Lamar can run, but he’s gonna have to throw quickly, and his receivers haven’t been doing him many favors.

  • I’m expecting the Arizona offense to bounce back this week against a weak Seattle pass defense. Michael Wilson is a great target for DFS and for a flex play in regular leagues.

  • I can’t wait for the Miami vs Philadelphia matchup on Sunday night football. I really hope we see some fireworks. I don’t know how we don’t, given the offensive talent on both sides of the field. It’s gonna be great!

That’s it for this week! See you next time!
