Dynasty Moves to Make NOW!

Improve your roster using player values

Hello everyone! Sorry for being out last week, it was a rough one for me since I was sick all throughout it. Hence why I wasn’t able to get a newsletter out. But, I hope that this will suffice. I have two wrapped into one, with not just dynasty buys, but also some dynasty sells!

I’ll be leaning heavily on KeepTradeCut for dynasty values. It’s not perfect and some have voiced their disdain for it on the X-sphere, but it gives us a baseline of public opinion to go off of if nothing else. So let’s get to it!

Dynasty Buys

Joe Mixon 🐄

He’s getting older for sure; he’ll be 28 by the time the season starts. But, he’s a skilled veteran back who has been a relevant RB1/high-end RB2 his entire career outside of injury. Mixon has been the RB5, RB12, RB3, (injured), RB13, and RB9 since 2018. He joins a high-powered Texans’ offense led by young phenom CJ Stroud where Devin Singletary managed to become the RB10 from weeks 10-18 after the Texans (mostly) decided to give him the rock. Mixon is valued right now as the RB21 on KeepTradeCut, behind guys like David Montgomery and Derrick Henry; who are either in a split backfield or much older.

🐬 Raheem Mostert

When I looked up Mostert’s KTC value, I couldn’t believe my eyes. He’s the RB43 in dynasty startups. Now, to be fair, he’s worth more than that, and it will likely take more to get him than the RB43 tag implies, but that’s a value if I’ve ever seen one. For a contender, he’s the perfect target. Heck even if you think NEXT year is your time to shine, he should be in consideration as a trade target:

🐆 Christian Kirk

Since coming to Jacksonville, Kirk has been nothing but consistent. After the Week 1 debacle of last year, he was the WR16 from Weeks 2-12 in 2023. Even if you count Week 1, he was the WR23. In 2022, he was the WR11 overall. Calvin Ridley is gone, and yes, they brought in Gabe Davis, but up to this point it’s not like he’s been a target hog.

Some other trade for targets:

  • Diontae Johnson

  • Josh Downs

  • Romeo Doubs

  • James Conner

  • Will Levis

  • Dalton Schultz

Dynasty Sells

C.J. Stroud 🐄

This pains me to write, but I’ve sold Stroud this offseason. Not because I think he’s a bust. Certainly not because I don’t think he’ll be a star. I think he’s going to be a high-end quarterback for years to come. But there are other solid quarterbacks who have similar floors than Stroud and may offer a bit more on the rushing side of things where you can trade Stroud for another QB+some.

For me, I sold Stroud and a 2024 2nd in Superflex for Jordan Love, the 2024 sixth overall rookie pick, a 2024 2nd-round pick, and a 2024 4th-rounder. More than likely, I turned Stroud into Jordan Love and Brock Bowers/Rome Odunze. He was the QB5 last year and on a per-game basis, they were very similar in fantasy production, with Love having a slight edge. That could change this year, but overall it helped my team to use the hype around Stroud to continue building it into a contender.

In dynasty, it’s fine to just keep and hold your guys, it’s your team. You do as you wish. However, part of the strategy in dynasty fantasy football is being able to take a step back and pounce on player values when they are high/low and use that to your advantage. That’s what I did with Stroud in this case.

Travis Etienne 🐆

We’re staying in the division here with ETN. It’s key to keep in mind that very few players are a “sell now at all costs, I’m out” in dynasty. A positive case can be made for dynasty players much easier than a negative one. Etienne had a great 2023 and may very well follow it up with a better 2024. However, the Jaguars brought in Tank Bigsby (who flopped very hard) but seem committed to getting him involved and going this season. It’s clear that in a perfect world, Jacksonville does not want Etienne to carry the rock with a workhorse workload. They want someone else there to ease the burden. And it’s possible he could suffer because of it. He may be just fine but it’s never a bad idea to capitalize when someone’s value is high.

Javonte Williams

The Bronco’s offense is not trending in the right direction this offseason. They’ve sold off pieces of their offense and don’t have a franchise QB to speak of. They barely have a plain old QB to speak of! 2023 was his first year off of a major injury, so it’s understandable that his efficiency wasn’t what we saw from him earlier in his career (3.6 YPC). But with defenses able to focus more on the run with the lack of pass-catching talent, not to mention QB talent, it may be hard for him to find room to run. He also has Samaje Perine and Jaleel McLaughlin to compete with for touches, who both showed flashes and ability last year. There are still Javonte believers out there, and you can potentially get some decent value (say, a 2024 mid-late rookie draft second-round pick) for him.

Some other players you can look to sell:

  • Alvin Kamara

  • Chase Brown and/or Zack Moss

  • Davante Adams

  • Gabe Davis

I realize this newsletter was basically “Buy or Sell, AFC South Edition”, but that’s just how it turned out and it wasn’t necessarily planned. Either way, I hope you enjoyed it and learned something from it.

That will do it for this edition of the Ballfield Banter newsletter! Thanks for hanging in there and understanding while I was under the weather. See you soon! We’ll be doing an NFL Draft Preview next week, I can’t wait!
