2024 Rookie Preview Pt.2

Wide Receiver and Tight End Edition

The lull is real. Other than some content being released by some major content creators (as you’ll find out below) it’s been a little quiet in the fantasy football world.

Rashee Rice news aside, that is. But anyway, we’ll let that situation play out before diving into any sort of reaction, as right now it’s all speculation and nothing is certain.

With all that said and out of the way, here are some of my thoughts on the upcoming class of wide receivers and tight ends. I can’t get to everyone, especially the wide receivers, since this is a very large and deep class. I think you’ll enjoy what’s below all the same. Whether you find some 🥵 takes or something that makes you think 🤔 , I’m sure there’s something for you!

2024 Rookie WR Preview

We all have a consensus top three wide receivers: Marvin Harrison, Malik Nabers, and Rome Odunze. It’s the conversation of who is the WR4 that is the interesting bit.

For me, it’s Xavier Worthy. I really like the junior out of Texas despite his size and speed concerns. There are a lot of people who are concerned he is too fast, and compare him to other fast wideouts. But, he’s more productive than all of them in college and I think he could buck the trend. He’s got some quick twitch and breakaway ability that I think will help him at the next level.

I liked Keon Coleman 🏹 to start the year, seeing all of his ridiculous grabs and the ability of his hands to just snag passes. But then I looked deeper and started to waver on him. And then I saw this doozy:

Matt Harmon, the founder of Reception Perception, is one of the sharpest minds on receivers out there. His word isn’t gospel but after coming up with some questions of my own based on my research, seeing him come out even worse with Harmon’s process is concerning to say the least.

Many are saying 🐓 Xavier Legette is one of the most interesting prospects in this year’s WR class. And quite honestly they are right. He had a super late breakout year, his fifth year in college, in fact. But the thing is he dominated in that last year. I’m not a great film watcher but even in my lack of skills in that department, I left impressed after watching a few of his games. He runs routes well, can get open, and shows some speed. But usually, receivers who bloom that late in their college career don’t do well in the pros.

It might be a bit of a hot take, but I’m wondering if Luke McCaffrey offers some value. He offers some rushing ability and started off his college career as a quarterback, so he’s still learning the position. If he’s only 60% as effective as his older brother he could be a nice fantasy asset to snag later in rookie drafts (60% would be like 14 points per game guys, I’ll take that all day!).

I have more thoughts on the receivers in this class, don’t worry 😉 If you want to see more you can click the link near the bottom of this newsletter to purchase my wide receiver prospect guide, or click here to get it now!

2024 Rookie TE Preview

If you remember last week I said running back was not the most fun thing to discuss. It’s pretty much the same with tight ends, but worse.

If nothing else, the top-end talent is good. 🐶 Brock Bowers stands head and shoulders above everyone else in this class and is the unquestioned clear TE1. He’s big, he’s fast, can catch screens or get open downfield. The man can do it all and it’s no wonder why fantasy players, and NFL franchises, are in love with this dude.

After that, it’s a mess. It’s unlikely that more than three or maybe four tight ends will be drafted in rookie drafts this April. Ja’Tavion Sanders is the presumed TE2 of the class, but he didn’t test as the most athletic. It’s not a deal breaker, but it is a red flag since athleticism is a big deal for fantasy tight ends.

Some other tight ends in this class that could prove useful pass-catching options for NFL offenses include Cade Stover and Ben Sinnott. Sinnott had a great final year at Kansas State, with over 600 receiving yards to his name as their receiving leader and Stover has a lot of experience under his belt.
